A Word About Membership

Written by
Our Membership

People have asked us, "Who can be a member of 13Pro? What does 'professional' mean exactly?"  13Pro is open to everyone between the ages of 21-40ish, and this may include students as well as those who may not be currently employed.  The term professional was meant to encompass the majority of our membership, who are generally considered to be young in terms of their work experience, as well as in years.  It was formed to connect these people in a number of ways, helping them to make friends and meet peers in a social setting, to network and develop their own skills through professional development activities (i.e. workshops, conferences, seminars, etc.), and to get involved in/give back to their respective communities.  We have a very diverse group in 13Pro currently, from attorneys to computer experts, from journalists to university and non-profit organization employees.  So, whatever your expertise or trade, we would love to have you join our exciting new organization!  If you have questions about joining, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Kris Schachel from Keep Carbondale Beautiful (www.keepcb.org) is looking for anyone who may be interested in serving on the board of Keep Carbondale Beauitful. If you are interested, please contact them at: http://www.keepcb.org/contact-us.html

Here's Kris's description of what Keep Carbondale Beautiful is all about & what kind of committiment is necessary:

I have been Board President of Keep Carbondale Beautiful since 2005, and active prior to that in different capacities. I am reaching out right now because we are seeking new nominees for our volunteer board.

And our mission is basically four-fold: community improvement through litter cleanup and prevention, promotion of recycling for waste reduction, environmental education, and beautification incentives (such as our Bright Spot Award).

The board currently meets monthly, Jan. – Nov., and most meetings run an hour; this year we’ve met 12:00-1:00 on the 4th Wednesday at the Civic Center. Our biggest event is the Spring Clean Up & Recycling Day, the 3rd Saturday of April at Turley Park. We’ve been serving the community since 1987 (initially as “Carbondale Clean & Green”), so next year marks our 25th anniversary and I am hoping to reinvigorate our leadership for this milestone.

It is not a tremendous time commitment, and board members need not live in Carbondale.
